Fun and Learning

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Over the last couple of days, Lyra has had this AWESOME new game/activity to play with.  Her TVI brought it with her to her last visit and now we are “trying it out” to see if it is something we would want to buy. See the video above to watch Lyra in action.

This game, toy, activity, or whatever you want to call it is called Toddler Make-a-Match.  There are a variety of learning activities you can do with it, each having a different level of difficulty.  All of the items needed for the activities are provided, including 12 pairs of objects, 12 silhouette cards, 12 outline cards, 3 blue baskets, and the instructions/activity suggestions. You’ve got questions?

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I’ve got answers…well, maybe.  : )

Some of you may have noticed the the new Frequently Asked Questions link in my sidebar.  Since I started this blog, I have often received questions, either through comments on posts or my Guestbook, or through email.  I don’t usually respond to those comments I receive by commenting back. I just feel weird commenting on my own site, like I’m trying to increase my page rank or something. :P

I created this Frequently Asked Questions page so I can answer those questions in a way that everyone can see them and get that information.  I will post the questions AND answers to some of those questions I have previously received.  From this point on, visitors will be able to send their questions directly through that page.  As I’ve said in the past, I’m no expert.  I’m just a parent who does a ridiculous amount of research.  I will do my best to answer your questions.  If I am unable to answer myself, I will at least point you in the right direction towards finding that answer.

Sunscreen Safety

Friday, October 24th, 2008

It’s that time of year. We are seeing fewer nice warm sunny days, which means our children are often spending less time outside.  Because of the cooler weather, our kids will be wearing pants and longer sleeved shirts.  However, even in the winter, when they do go outside, we need to remember to apply sunscreen to any parts of their body NOT protected by clothing.    Sun exposure can be even worse on a snowy day because of the amount of reflection off of the bright snow. Session with TVI and OT

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Normally Lyra’s TVI and OT come separately.  Lately they have been coming for visits together to try and work with Lyra outside where she is less familiar with the environment.  However, the last two Tuesday’s when they have come, it has been raining outside.

So, here is a video of their latest visit.  :)

Tanzania: Ignorance is Deadly

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

In Tanzania, a country in east Africa, more than 28 people with albinism, including a 7-month old baby, have been murdered.  Their body parts are being sold to witchdoctors to be made into potions.  It is a widespread belief that these potions bring riches and have magical powers. (more…)
